Privacy
This karaoke website is free to use, and ads at the bottom of some pages help pay for it. Here’s what it keeps, and what the ads do.
What the website keeps
- Rooms: the name you give the night, its settings, and for permanent rooms a scrambled (hashed) copy of the password.
- Requests: the song, the artist and the name a guest types, and a random number made by the guest’s phone so it can follow its own songs. Nothing else identifies the phone.
- How long: a one-night room and its requests are deleted after 30 days without use. Permanent rooms keep their latest 600 requests until the host deletes the room.
- Your browser remembers the room key (for hosts), the guest’s name and their requests, so the page still works after a reload. Clearing the site’s data removes them.
- Internet addresses: the web server’s logs record them, as on most websites. The karaoke app itself only holds them in memory for a few hours, to stop abuse such as too many sign-in attempts.
Ads
The home page and the guests’ request page can show one ad, at the very bottom. There are never ads on the TV screen, over the karaoke videos, or on the host’s page.
The ads come from Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalised ads in Google’s ad settings, and read how Google uses information from sites that use its services. Where the law asks for it (for example in the EU and the UK), you’re asked for consent first.
Videos
The screen plays karaoke videos in YouTube’s player, which follows Google’s privacy policy.
